| Bulletin from the cause: Animal Rights Go to Cause | Posted By: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals | To: Members in 406 Causes | Your name on PETA's next animal-rescue van! Dear Friend, Imagine if your loved one needed urgent help, but the only vehicle that could respond to the emergency had broken down on the side of a road. That may soon be the situation for thousands of animals in Virginia and North Carolina who are served by PETA's Companion Animal Project (CAP) vans. We need your help to purchase another lifesaving vehicle for CAP so that no call goes unanswered. As the manager of PETA's Companion Animal Project, I can tell you firsthand that each CAP van is critical in enabling us to make a difference in the lives of thousands of individual animals every year. Every day, we receive calls about animals in need, with no one but our CAP team willing or able to go to their aid. One of the animals whose life was changed by CAP is Ringo. From the time he was 3 months old, Ringo's life consisted of pacing on a patch of dirt in a junk-filled backyard, chained up like an old bicycle and deprived of the love that every dog needs and deserves. When PETA's fieldworkers found him, Ringo was suffering from intestinal parasites and was at least 15 pounds underweight. His growth was stunted because of chronic malnutrition. PETA's fieldworkers visited repeatedly, offering free services and advice, and were eventually able to convince Ringo's guardian to surrender him. The dog was very excited to be freed from his chain and to go for a ride in the CAP van. Now, Ringo has a real life—one with a loving family and a little "sister" dog named Speedo who keeps Ringo on his toes! A big goofball, Ringo loves to run around at the PETA dog park and is too busy having fun to dwell on his past. We urgently need to replace a CAP van damaged during our Hurricane Irene rescue efforts, and I hope you will help. A new, fully equipped CAP van will cost $25,000 and would assist in the emergency transport of cruelty caseworkers, rescue teams, and animals in dire need of our help. Would you please sponsor CAP's lifesaving work right now?
To honor those who make a contribution of $100 or more to help us purchase this van and aid CAP's rescue efforts, we will add your name on the new vehicle so that for years to come, our caseworkers can recognize the key role that you played in getting them a new van. Thank you for all that you do to help neglected animals like Ringo and for supporting all of CAP's important work for animals. Gratefully yours, Emily Allen CAP Caseworker
